WHAT IS PRESTON’S PANTRY PROJECT?
In May of 2018, Preston coordinated a food drive to benefit Boyertown Area Multi-Service as a school project. Onlookers were inspired as an eight-year-old taught us all a lesson on charity and caring for others. In a devastating blow to the community, on July 11, 2019, Preston’s life was cut short in a flash flood incident along with his mother, Pamela, who was eight months pregnant with baby Evelynn. In memory of Preston and his selfless contribution to helping others, a local group of dedicated community volunteers have banned together to form “Preston’s Pantry Project.” “Preston’s Pantry Project” was created to carry on Preston’s Legacy. The Project hopes to involve community members and local businesses in an annual drive to support Boyertown Area Multi-Service while honoring Preston’s wish of wanting to help our friends and neighbors in need.
For our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Tuesday, January 18, we would like to ask for donations to Preston’s Pantry. Preston was the grandson of our longtime custodian, Mr. Rob Snyder. Preston’s Pantry is in particular need of the items below. Anything you can donate will be so greatly appreciated!
SOAP — Short for Save Our Appearance Please, SOAP collections recognize the basic human right to cleanliness and self-esteem. Collect items that cannot be purchased with food stamps, which include anything that cannot be eaten: Personal care items (shampoo, bar soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.), paper products (paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, napkins, etc.), cleaning products (laundry detergent, dish soap, Lysol, etc.), diapers (especially sizes 3-5) and wipes, etc.
Birthday Kits — Every child should feel special on their birthday. Build a birthday kit in a shiny gift bag with handles. Fill it with cake mix, a tub of icing, a drink mix, matching party plates, napkins, cups, candles, and balloons. Extras such as decor, toys, tablecloths, noisemakers, and more are also welcome.
