On Tuesday, January 22nd, every student at New Eagle will participate in the annual Martin Luther King Service Project by assembling lunch bags. The lunch bags are donated to St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Norristown, which serves about 600 meals per week to the homeless, disabled, elderly, poor, and anyone in need. Each student will be given 2 lunch bags to decorate and assemble in the cafeteria. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about community service and how their efforts can directly help the less fortunate in our communities.
**IMPORTANT NOTE – VOLUNTEERS & DONATIONS**
The MLK Service Project is a PTO sponsored event and therefore completely funded by New Eagle families. Monetary contributions are used to purchase soup, hot chocolate, granola bars, apple sauce, and other food supplies at wholesale prices.
Monetary Donations
Monetary contributions can be made via check (payable to “New Eagle PTO”) and returned in an envelope to the office labeled “MLK Service Project” or donate online through the form below.
Toiletries Collection
A bin will be located in the NE lobby through Tuesday, January 22nd for NEW, UNUSED, UNOPENED toiletries. Travel or full size will be accepted. St. John’s Soup Kitchen has a particular need for toilet paper, paper towels, personal hygiene items, and feminine care products.
Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with set-up of the cafeteria and assembly of the lunch bags. We also need volunteers to drive the bags to St. John’s on Wednesday, January 23. To view open volunteer slots, click here!
