Since 2013, New Eagle has been a member of the Chester County Food Bank’s amazing Partner Garden Program. Our Giving Garden takes an incredible village and we are deeply grateful to anyone of any experience who would like to get their hands dirty and join us! In addition to coordinating day-to-day garden management, the Garden Committee also organizes a springtime school-wide event where students rotate through volunteer led stations to learn about the garden, recycling, and more environmentally based topics. So far in 2023, New Eagle students have planted, harvested, and donated over 160 pounds of produce!
Do you like to play in the dirt? Would you like to help feed your community? There are many projects and all different time commitments for parent volunteers! For more information or to help out: firstname.lastname@example.org
Updates from the Garden:
A group of 4th graders helped spread compost and hay to keep our raised beds nourished over the winter. Goodnight, garden! See you in the spring!
A very impressive 2023 growing season! Thank you, New Eagle!!
The Giving Garden featured in the TESD Newsletter!
Turnips, lettuce, and radishes almost ready to be harvested!
Nine classes harvested the last of the summer crops and planted the fall seedlings. All of the peppers, beans, eggplant, and tomatillos were picked and pulled so the beds were ready for our fall crops. Five classes planted spinach, turnips, lettuce, and radishes. The total summer bounty was 137 pounds!!
The Garden Committee and the Beautification Committee are joining forces for our fall fundraiser! The Flower Power Fundraiser sells bulbs, shipped directly to you, and 50% of the profit goes to the PTO!
Check out this beautiful sunflower that was planted in the garden as a seedling started by a science lab class!
A huge thank you to all of the families who volunteered in the Giving Garden this summer! You kept our rainbow of pollinators alive and thriving and the eggplant, tomatillos, peppers, and beans continue to be harvested by the pounds!
At the end of May, the Garden Committee hosted a “Party in the Garden!” The kids had fun making crafts, listening to stories, and participating in a nature-themed yoga session. Be sure to check out the Giving Garden this school year!
Check out these beautiful, new, generously donated picnic tables!
All of the very creative and inspiring art pieces from the Recycled Art Fair this year!
Last fall, the Garden Committee had a very successful fundraiser through Flower Power Fundraising. We were able to replace all five of our raised beds with composite material (that will last for a very long time!), purchase a storage container for all of our tools and supplies, and create a new “sensory garden” with plants donated from Jenkins Arboretum! Thank you to the New Eagle community for all of their support!!
